NUNCA FOI DEUS (IT WAS NEVER GOD) is a photographic body of work made in Rio de Janeiro between 2019 and 2025.
The photographs document daily life, intimacy, risk, belief, and survival in and around Rio’s favelas—made over repeated visits and long-term relationships with the people pictured. This work is not about spectacle or violence, but about proximity, trust, and time.
The images were originally presented as a public exhibition in New York City. This page exists to share the work with the people and communities in Brazil who made it possible.

NUNCA FOI DEUS (IT WAS NEVER GOD) é um corpo de trabalho fotográfico realizado no Rio de Janeiro entre 2019 e 2025.
As fotografias registram o cotidiano, a intimidade, o risco, a fé e a sobrevivência dentro e ao redor das favelas do Rio—resultado de visitas recorrentes e relações de longo prazo com as pessoas retratadas. Este trabalho não é sobre espetáculo ou violência, mas sobre proximidade, confiança e tempo.
As imagens foram apresentadas originalmente em uma exposição pública em Nova York. Esta página existe para compartilhar o trabalho com as pessoas e comunidades no Brasil que tornaram tudo isso possível.
